Beth Shalom Youth Groups

Encampment 2013

Here at Beth Shalom we offer various different youth groups for children from Kindergarten through High School, providing a venue for children to meet and form relationships with their Jewish peers in a safe, Jewish environment. Our award winning older youth groups, Kadima (middle school) and USY (high school) are affiliated with United Synagogues of Conservative Judaism's youth programs, United Synagogue Youth.

Mishpacha - (Kindergarten - 5th Grade)

Based off of our Shorashim model, our Mishpacha groups brings children in grades K - 5 and their parents together to strengthen both the familial and individual connection to Judaism and our community here at Beth Shalom.  We welcome both older and younger siblings to join us.  Previous events have included making Apple Pies for the High Holidays (and donating to Grassroots Crisis Intervention as well), and making cards for Operation Welcome Home.

Kadima (6th Grade - 8th Grade)

Kadima meets at least once a month, and sometimes twice a month on Saturday evenings and occasional Sunday afternoons for Social Programming such as Kadima Survivor, the annual Shadowland overnight and annual Amazing Race. Kadima is affiliated with United Synagogue Youth and members are also eligible to attend Regional Kadima events such as Kadima Kallah (overnight Shabbat trips) and Kings Dominion Day. Kadima membership is $35 and includes Regional Membership Dues. You can register for Kadima through Religious School Registration or by contacting the Youth Director

USY (High School)

Our award winning USY group is led by a teen board that plans programs in five different categories: Israel Education, Social Action/Tikun Olam, Religious/Education, Membership Outreach, and Social. Often programs include aspects of each creating fun and interesting social experiences for everyone involved. Most recently, the USY has planned: a Membership Camp-in, Japanese Game Show Night and the annual Iron Chef Competition. Every year they also usher the annual Martin Luther King/Abraham Joshua Heschel Interfaith Service and participate in a party for tolerance after the service. In addition to local events, USY members have the option of participating in regional and international events and conventions and amazing summer trips around North America, Europe and Israel. USY welcomes 8th grade members in the Spring Semester. USY yearly membership is $45 and includes Regional and International dues. You can register for USY through Hebrew High registration or by contacting the Youth Director. Don't forget to check us out on facebook!
