The Torah commands us not to own chametz (leavened products) during Passover. Jewish tradition allows us to sell our chametz for the eight days of the festival. This sale is typically accompanied by a donation to the synagogue and a contribution to Maot Hittin, a fund that provides for those in need during Passover.
